Day 1: Following the Trail of Castles along the Orlice River

Set off on a relaxing trip full of castles, nature, and great food at the foothills of the Orlické Mountains!
You’ll visit the romantic Častolovice Castle with its mini-zoo, white fallow deer, and courtyard café; the neoclassical castle in Kostelec nad Orlicí, just a few kilometers away, known for its art exhibitions and Toni's Café; and the picturesque Doudleby Castle, featuring a sgraffito facade and a rural life museum.

You can enhance your journey with a cycling trip along the Castle Trail, enjoy a tasting at the Clock Brewery, or stop by the famous Lace Museum in Vamberk. The best part? You can tailor the trip to your liking—visit one castle or all of them in a single day. And when your energy runs out, just hop on a train back. Who knows—you might even meet Count Kinský himself as your guide in Kostelec!

Day 2: For History and Experiences to Potštejn and Opočno

Head to Potštejn, a picturesque town on the banks of the Divoká Orlice River, where you can conquer the castle, take a stroll through a linden alley to the romantic castle, and finish the day with a beer from the renowned Clock Brewery. The castle offers a medieval atmosphere and beautiful views, while at the chateau, you can choose from both classic and nighttime tours – and even spend the night here. Want more? Head by train or car to the nearby town of Opočno with its arcaded castle, or to Rychnov nad Kněžnou for baroque elegance and the Museum and Gallery of the Orlické Mountains.

Day 3: Discover Tradition and Nature in Krňovice and Týniště

Just a short distance from Hradec Králové, you can explore the open-air museum in Krňovice with its folk architecture, craft demonstrations, farm animals, and delicious jams. If you like it there, you can even spend the night in a historic farmhouse or blacksmith's workshop. From there, head to Třebechovice pod Orebem to see a world-renowned treasure – the mechanical Probošt's Nativity scene with over two thousand figurines. Cyclists can extend the route to Týniště nad Orlicí via the Poorlická nature trail, which features an observation tower in an old water tower, a toy car museum with eight thousand models, and swimming in the river. And if you like beer, stop by the village of Ledce, where you’ll find the whimsical "beer state" Ovipistán.

Day 4: Experience Všestary, Hrádek, and Chlum by Bike

Do you want to experience a day as a prehistoric hunter, a movie princess, or a fan of military history? Head out on a roughly 30-kilometer bike ride around the Archeopark in Všestary, where you’ll discover villages from the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages, and perhaps even roast some sausages. Continue to the Stěžery Zoopark to see animals from all over the world, and enjoy a beer and delicious food at the Beránek Brewery. Next stop? The fairytale-like Hrádek u Nechanic, where the movie Prince and Evening Star was filmed, and finally, Chlum, with its lookout tower and the modern Museum of the 1866 War. The perfect mix of exploration, experiences, and relaxation!

Day 5: Enjoy Hradec Králové, the Famous Salon of the Republic

Hradec Králové, known as the "Salon of the Republic," will charm you with its peaceful atmosphere, stunning architecture by Gočár and Kotěra, parks, cycling paths, and steamship rides on the Elbe. Discover both historical and modern gems on a relaxed six-kilometer walk through the city center, visit the famous Museum of Eastern Bohemia, explore galleries, or enjoy the views from the White Tower. If you visit in the summer, you’ll experience Hradec as a city of festivals—ranging from theater and jazz to rock.
